Everwood&Co. FAQ

Do the boards come pre-finished?

Yes! Every board arrives expertly pre-finished with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax, ensuring immediate readiness. After a gentle handwash, your board is ready for use. For optimal performance and longevity, we recommend applying an additional coat of food-grade mineral oil within a week of unboxing. Regular oiling afterward will keep your board looking pristine.

How often should I oil my board?

  • Every 2 weeks with regular daily use.
  • Every 2–3 weeks if the board sees less frequent use.
  • Or anytime the wood surface starts looking dry, dull, or loses its sheen.

What type of oil or wax should I use for my board?

Always use food-grade mineral oil or beeswax-based conditioners. Avoid cooking oils such as olive or canola oil, as they can oxidize, become rancid, and cause unpleasant odors or damage your board.

Can I use vegetable oils like olive oil on my board?

No. Cooking oils, except fractionated coconut oil, contain organic compounds that can become rancid over time, transferring odors and compromising your board’s quality. We recommend sticking to mineral oil or beeswax-based conditioners specifically designed for cutting boards.

Can I put my board in the dishwasher?

Never place your board in the dishwasher. High heat and moisture from dishwashers can warp, crack, or otherwise damage the wood. Always hand-wash gently with mild soap and warm water, then dry immediately.

Can I set hot pots or pans directly on my board?

No, avoid placing hot cookware directly onto your board. High heat can cause burn marks, discoloration, and irreversible damage. Always use a trivet or heat-resistant pad to protect your board.

How do I remove odors or tough stains from my board?

Sprinkle coarse salt over the board’s surface, then rub vigorously using half a lemon, squeezing slightly to help lift stains and neutralize odors. Wipe the residue off with a damp cloth and allow the board to air dry upright thoroughly.

How do I deeply clean my board?

  1. Wash both sides with warm, soapy water, then rinse and immediately dry.
  2. To remove lingering odors, rub the board with fresh lemon juice, rinse, and dry.
  3. For stubborn stains, sprinkle baking soda over the surface, scrub with lemon, rinse thoroughly, and dry.
  4. Finish with a generous coat of food-grade mineral oil or beeswax conditioner to maintain moisture and preserve the wood.

How should I dry and store my board?

After cleaning, dry both sides thoroughly with a towel and store upright in a well-ventilated area. Avoid leaving your board standing in water or exposing it to direct heat sources, as this can cause warping.

My board has dried out—what should I do?

Apply a generous coat of food-grade mineral oil or beeswax conditioner to all surfaces of your board, allowing it to soak in for several hours or overnight. Afterward, wipe away excess oil. Regular maintenance helps prevent drying and maintains the beauty and durability of your board.
